Hello everyone! We were so happy to see so many of you at yesterday’s meeting. You asked some great questions. A big thank you goes to Anthony and Brian (the founding members of the club), and Emily (a former president). We continue to be inspired by your journeys beyond the club and we are excited to see you all again in the future!
Some of their most common advice is as follows:
- Network, network, network. Build your network while at school and in internships and don’t hesitate to reach out to SU alums. The alumni network is strong.
- Prepare for opportunities. Doing things like going to competitions, practicing in the club, doing a project, or studying for a certification are all great ways to build experience and lay the groundwork for creating opportunities. They are also a great way to show employers that you are well rounded.
- There are a lot of ways to advance in an IT/security career. Follow the path that is right for you and make sure it is sustainable. Hard work is good, but you need to take time to take care of yourself. You don’t want you to get brunt out when you reach your goal.
As a general reminder, club elections are next week. Come prepared to either vote or present yourself as a candidate. For those who have filled out the application form, you will receive an email soon detailing what our expectations are during the election process.
