About

The ASCE Sustainable Solutions Competition challenges students to redevelop a site plan into a mixed use development. Students must considering all site inputs and outputs, including stormwater, wastewater, electricity, water supply, and municipal solid waste streams. To integrate these parameters into the site, students draw on their experiences from a wide range of classes to devise innovative approaches to increase the overall sustainability. Students become familiar with the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure’s Envision framework to quantify and assess sustainability goals.
The SU student chapter established a Sustainable Solutions team in 2023-24, and has since placed first at the regional symposium two years in a row! This past summer, our 2024-25 team had the opportunity to compete at the national competition at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. We placed 7th overall out of 22 teams, and are excited to keep this momentum moving into the 2025-26 school year!
